Preparations for Miss Bodylicious Zimbabwe are underway with the contest slated for December 10 at the traditional venue, King Solomon Hotel in Kwekwe.
The pageant, which is fast gaining prominence in the Zimbabwe modelling arena for its unique celebration of full-figured women, will see 15 contestants from across the country taking to the ramp for the coveted crown.
The pageant’s manager, Mavis Koslek said preparations are going on well with the ladies set to check in for boot camp from December 7.
She said the event that failed to take place last year due to Covid-19 restrictions, is back with a bang and is expected to be bigger and better.
Koslek said the event is aimed at celebrating true African beauty.
“With the Miss Bodylicious pageant, we’re celebrating African beauty with brains as well as celebrating middle-size women who’re not being recognised or celebrated by other pageants,” she said.
“This pageant seeks to appreciate the curvaceousness of African women. Celebrating women and young ladies who are making a difference in their lives and in the societies they live in, who are comfortable in their own skin and love themselves.
It’s also to celebrate young women who understand that beauty is not a measure of how skinny or big you are, but that being curvy is part of being beautiful,” she said.
Solomon Matsa who is organising the event and sponsoring it through his King Solomon Hotel said the pageant is meant to balance the meaning of beauty with the African definition of beauty which has for long been relegated to the peripheries.
Project manager Rickie Dabvu said the competition is also an effort to bring together, the best talents from the country’s 10 provinces.
He added that the event has also paved way for designers, beauticians, fashion photographers, and models to display their art, talents and skills.
To spice up the event, South Africa-based My Melody hit-maker Nox and Enzo Ishall of the Kanjiva fame are expected to perform.
