Thirty models from Mabvuku-Tafara, Harare will strut their stuff on the ramp at the inaugural Miss Scotland scheduled for Mabvuku Hall this Saturday.

Bankrolled by local Member of Parliament Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya, Miss Scotland is meant to empower the girl-child to build self-esteem and confidence.

Pageant coordinator, Tendai Zhakata, told journalists this afternoon that the pageant was meant to empower the girl-child.

“We have come up with this pageant to change the lives of girls in our community,” he said.

“With the blessings of our Member of Parliament Pedzai Sakupwanya, we have decided to launch this pageant with the girl-child at heart.

“Girls who are talented in modelling should be empowered so that they become future leaders.”

Zhakata, who has a lot of experience in dealing with the youths, said the pageant was also a vehicle to fight drug abuse.

“We are also going to use the platform to raise awareness against drug and substance abuse,” he said.

“It is sad that girls have also been caught in this web, which is quite disturbing. It is through such initiatives where communities should be empowered with the correct information.”

He assured winners of big prizes at the event.

“Before talking about prizes, we are going to have two categories the 16- 20 years and the 21 – 25 years,” he said.

“The first prize would be a sponsored trip to Dubai in September plus spending money. Other winners will get cash prizes. All the participants will get something for their efforts.”

Entertainment will be provided by Mabvuku-bred artistes such Garry Tight, Enzo Ishall, Tally B, Boss Pumakol, Jah Noz and local disc jockeys and emcees.

Guspy Warrior from Chitungwiza will also be part of the line-up.
