In a successful second edition of Miss Teen Gwanda launched last week at the Matabeleland South Agricultural Society, winners pledged to combat drug abuse among teenagers.
Samantha Moyo was crowned Miss Teen Gwanda Queen, with Thandolwethu Joga as the first princess and Sidumisile Moyo as the second princess. Thelma Moyo secured the title of Miss Confidence.
The aspiring professional models, who will represent Gwanda in Miss Teen Intellect Zimbabwe, will also enroll in a professional modelling course offered by Planet Kadder Academy starting in January next year.
Held during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, the pageant addressed crucial themes and featured presentations from various organisations, including the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Recreation, Ministry of Youth Empowerment Development and Vocational Training, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services, Lesego Memorial Trust, NKomwa Foundation Trust, Social Welfare, Zimbabwe Republic Police, and the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe.
The event’s adjudicators included Maculwamahle Nkomo, Melisa Dube, and Bible Khumalo. Christine Tembo, a 14-year-old with an online podcast titled “Bringing Change To Ekasi,” served as the MC, and entertainment was provided by young talents such as DJ Marvel (Baby Boo), Pu-re da Skhothane, Double G, and Rut Boy—all from the academy.
Miss Teen Gwanda founder, Kadder, highlighted the event’s informative nature and substantial attendance.
“We had detailed presentations that equipped the models with the know-how on how to tackle the issue of drug and substance misuse. Miss Teen Gwanda and the two runner-ups pledged to fight drug and substance misuse among teenagers through social meet-ups and a poetry show,” said Kadder.
