MISS Universe Zimbabwe director, Tendai Hunda, believes Zimbabwe has equal chances of making it at the pageant’s grand finale to be held in El Salvador later this year.
Hunda is also happy with the quality of models who have auditioned so far.
In an interview, she said there has been an overwhelming response.
“We started our auditions in Chitungwiza last week with an overwhelming response from contestants.
“We also had auditions being held in Masvingo on the same day where beautiful ladies came through.
“This coming weekend, we are going to Mutare and on July 28 and 29, we will be in Gweru and Bulawayo.
“On August 5, we are hosting the last auditions in Harare.”
She said, after auditions, they are going to select the top 30 but, on the final day, only 12 contestants will make it.
“We have great talent and so many new faces coming in.
“There is an overwhelming response, people and girls are excited.
“Miss Universe is the largest and most popular pageant in the world, so every model’s dream would be to eventually walk on the Miss Universe stage.
“This is a huge opportunity for every model in Zimbabwe.
“We have contestants from the diaspora who are registering via the website and excited to come to Zimbabwe for this cause,” she said.
Zimbabwe will make a return to this year’s Miss Universe pageant in December after a 22-year hiatus.
This year’s Miss Universe will be held in El Salvador.
Local models will compete in the Miss Universe Zimbabwe in September to select a representative for the global contest.
