Organisers of this year’s Miss World Zimbabwe Pageant have taken a leap of faith by pegging their tickets at $300, a far stretch from what is usually charged at similar events.
The pricing according to them is in line with their goal of delivering a world class showcase filled with glitz and glamour.
Preparations are at an advanced stage as tickets have started selling while the contestants are already in boot-camp.
This year’s edition would be held at Borrowdale Brooke Golf Course in Harare on July 22.
In an interview, pageant spokesperson Tendai Chirau said preparations are going according to plan.
He said this year the tickets are pegged at $300 for individuals while corporate companies will pay $3 000 for a table.
“I am happy with the preparations as the tickets have started selling. We have pegged them at $300, to include a full course meal.
“Companies can buy their tables too and enjoy the same benefits,” he said.
Chirau said it would be a red carpet event and guests are expected to be in dinner wear.
“As the norm and trying to meet the international standards — Zimbabwe is not backward on that. Guests are expected to be in black tie as we are going to host the red carpet interviews,” he said.
Turning to the pageant itself, Chirau said girls are in camp at a local hotel and winners from Miss World Zim-UK will be joining them soon.
“The progress in the camp is so amazing. I can’t share the details of the venue but there is a lot happening so far.
“They are being taught how to walk, talk and sit, there is also courteous education on the history of Zimbabwe and we have reputable coaches that are handling the girls well,” he said.
He said the prizes for the winners will be announced on the day, including the designers working with them.
Meanwhile, Chirau said this year’s edition of the pageant was a tribute to the late MWZ patron, Kiki Divaris, who contributed to the growth of the local modelling industry.
“Our theme this year is, ‘Celebrating Beauty through the Eyes of the late Icon, Kiki Divaris’, she may be gone but not forgotten,” he said.
