Miss Zim organisers mum over contestants

WITH only two weeks to go before the Miss Zimbabwe finale, organisers are mum over details of the girls contesting.
The pageant, which has been on ice for the past three years, makes a return on June 14 at Mabvazuva Village (formerly Coronation Caravan Park) in Harare.

The girls who will contest though, are in boot camp in Harare. Over the years, regional pageants have been held to select girls to represent provinces at the national pageant, and details of those contesting have been public knowledge. That is not the case at this year’s pageant as only the organisers know who will take to the ramp, come June 14.

The only information which has been made public is the girls’ boot camp and pageant dates. It also seems that those in boot camp are not necessarily the ones who will take to the ramp on June 14 as they will be trimmed.

Miss Zimbabwe spokesperson, Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa said they would soon release the final list of those who will make it out of boot camp.

“We have nothing to release to the public at the moment. The final list of contestants will be out after the boot camp is over,” she said.
Miss Bulawayo, Melissa Chaka though, is part of the girls in boot camp, hoping to secure a spot at the final.

Over the years, Miss Zimbabwe has been a national event.  The public would pay a reasonable amount of money to witness it, but this year, organisers are doing things differently as the black tie event will only be open to those with invites.

Warning shots of changes in the pageant were shot last year when Bulawayo representatives were disqualified from contesting after organisers said they did not meet the set criteria wanted by the Miss Zimbabwe Trust. Organisers were looking for girls with a minimum height of 1.72 metres, hip size of 99 centimetres and who weigh not more than 60kgs. Chaka who is 1,69m tall, is one of the models keeping their fingers crossed, waiting to hear her fate. She was disqualified together with 15 other models last year after failing to meet the stipulated height requirement.

The models will only get confirmation of their disqualification when the organisers announce the finalists. Zimbabweans will have to wait a bit longer for hopefully a live broadcast on ZBCtv to see who will be crowned the most beautiful woman in Zimbabwe.
