The 23- year-old Bulawayo beauty who is set to represent the country at the Miss World finals to be held in China revealed that she had realised that most cancer patients were stigmatised and many people have the belief that they will not develop cancer.
“My project for the Miss World pageant is on cervical cancer awareness because I realised that it is one of the leading killer diseases in the country.
“It is sad that most patients are still stigmatised and that is why I have taken it upon myself to work with a number of cancer centres in my campaign,” said Dhlakama.
She said so far Rock Foundation had pledged full support for her project.
The Midlands State University Development Studies student revealed that she was expecting to receive her prizes at the end of the month before starting preparations for the Miss World pageant.
Speaking after the Miss Zimbabwe finals Miss Zim Trust patron Kiki Divaris said her organisation did not have anything in their bag yet.
The Trust also revealed that they were not giving cars as part of their prizes this year as it did not tally with their theme– I am Zimbabwean.
Dhlakama a devout Jehovah’s Witness said she would be going on leave at the beginning of next month to intensify preparations for the Miss World finals.
“I am grateful to the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority for allowing me to go on leave so as to prepare for the pageant. It is really challenging because I am also writing examinations at the end of the month so I have a hectic schedule,” she said.
Dhlakama said from the first of June she would be based in the capital, Harare until she leaves for China in August.
Asked on what her church had to say about her Miss Zimbabwe title she said: “They said I should I come to church often.”
Dhlakama fired a broadside at her critics saying she did not care what they thought about her as the chosen Miss Zimbabwe.
“I don’t care what people think or say about me. The fact remains; I am Miss Zimbabwe unless I am de-throned , which I doubt very much,” she said.
Dhlakama who is employed as an Executive Assistant by ZTA, the former Miss Zimbabwe financier, heaved a sigh of relief after her employer pulled out of the pageant as it enabled her to pursue her dreams and compete in the Miss Zimbabwe pageant.
The queen hails from the same neighbourhood with Miss Zimbabwe 2005 Lorraine Maphala.
She is faced with a mammoth task of raising the country’s flag higher than her predecessor, Miss Zimbabwe 2011 Malaika Mushandu who made it into the Miss World pageant’s Top 10 models.
Dhlakama is left with only two months before she leaves the country for Ordos China for the 62nd edition of the Miss World finals set for 18 August.
