Missing farmer: Police intensify probe

Investigations have been intensified by police into a case in which a Concession farmer went missing in unclear circumstances recently.

The farmer, Josiah Silas Mukwasi, was reported missing on March 19 and efforts are still being made to locate him.

Police said so far, they only have a report of a missing person, amid reports that the farmer’s body was located in a soya bean field over the weekend but disappeared, thereafter. There are claims that some unknown men then took the body and hid it. Some family members have alleged that Josiah Silas Mukwasi’s body was found on Saturday and the following day, it went missing from the field after it was left unguarded. It is reported that the deceased’s brother, Victor Mukwasi, had been informed by a neighbour that the body had been found in the field and then made a report to police.

Victor says his brother went missing for almost five days and a missing person was reported to the police.

“He was staying in the Cunningham Farm area where he was doing his farming. After we made a report to the police of a missing person, on Saturday evening, some informants came and informed me that Silas’s body had been seen at the farm.

“I then went to the police to inform them at around 6pm on Saturday that Silas’s body had been found.  But after making such a report, police at Concession did not manage to go and attend to the scene but they went the following day. The body was, however, not secured during the night,” he said.

Victor said when they arrived at the scene on Sunday around 10am, the body was no longer there. “Since that time up to now, the body has not been found. However, we are continuing to search for our brother’s body,” said Victor. However, police said they were not aware of such reports circulating in the area.
