A RUSAPE Town Council police officer – who went missing over the past three weeks – was on Friday found dead on the shores of Rusape Dam, plunging his family and the community into mourning.

The body of Jairosi Ishmael Chirinda was, however, retrieved from the gigantic water reservoir by the police sub-aqua unit and council police officers on Saturday morning.

Rusape police spokesman Assistant Inspector Muzondiwa Clean confirmed the retrieval of Chirinda’s body from the dam and said investigations were in progress.

Asst Insp Clean said Chirinda disappeared on July 30, 2021, around 11pm, prompting the family to make a missing person report early this month.

The body was first found by some fishmongers on Friday, who made a report at Rusape Urban Police Station.

RTC chairman Cllr Lyton Sithole said Chirinda’s body was taken to Rusape General Hospital mortuary.

“The body is expected to undergo pathological tests in Harare early this week. The body was still intact though it had slight deformities on the face,” said Clr Sithole.
