MAROVANYATI Dam in Buhera District has the potential to attract investors in the tourism sector as well as create jobs for the local people, the Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyeri has said.
Speaking on behalf of Minister Matsikenyeri during yesterday’s tour of the implementation and monitoring of Government programmes at the dam, director in the minister’s office Mr Luck Bhasopo hailed the Second Republic for initiating such a life-changing project.
“Marovanyati Dam is a game-changing project serving good purpose here in Buhera District. There are huge plans to carry out several ventures in the tourism and agriculture sectors that target improving this area.
“We are grateful for the development agenda the New Dispensation continues to spearhead which has seen many programmes coming to fruition,” said Mr Bhasopo.
He said harnessing water from the dam will help in fighting hunger in the district through farming activities and increase people’s livelihoods as well.
Buhera West legislator Soul Nzuma echoed similar sentiments, saying besides job creation opportunities, Marovanyati Dam has improved water supply for irrigation schemes and domestic purposes at Murambinda.
Marovanyati Dam, one of the biggest in the country, was constructed by Government and commissioned by President Mnangagwa last year.
