The youthful crowd that usually throng Hifa are in for a treat as they have major representation at this year’s edition.
Controversial but talented artiste Rockfords Josphat or simply Roki will lead the pack of talented urban groovers who are billed to perform at the annual event.
Roki, who burst into limelight at the turn of the millennium, has evolved over the years and is now a complete artiste known for exhibiting well choreographed acts during his performance.
Apart from controversy that has continually stalked him, the former big brother housemate remains one of the finest youthful musicians to emerge in the country.
Roki will give guidance and experience to other urban grooves artistes who are making their debut performance at the grand stage among them Flem B who won the 2012 ZBC Music Video of the year.
On the dancehall scene, Sniper Storm continues to be rewarded for his creativity as he has been slotted to perform at this year’s event. The dancehall chanter is riding high with hit songs “Wainira MuSoja,” and Love YeMusoja.”
The National Arts Merit Awards winner said he was humbled by the invitation to perform at the festival.
“It shows that I am being recognised in the country, I am very happy about the invitation,” he said.
Probably the peak of all the musical shows on display will be between Jah Prayzah and Suluman Chimbetu’s performances.
The two artistes are riding high with their latest albums. Sulu’s album “Syllabus,” has already bagged a NAMA award and his “Batai Munhu,” dance has gone viral.
On the other hand, Jah Prayzah’s album “Tsviriyo,” has become anthemic and of late he is emerging as one of the musicians in Zimbabwe with the magnetic power of crowd pulling.
Selmor Mtukudzi will lead the female artistes who are slotted on the prestigious line-up.
Fans will have the opportunity to feel songs from her latest album “Expressions.” She said the album was a narrative of her life.
Other female artistes billed to perform are Adiona and Black Bird.
Junior Brown received his first call due to his hugely popular song “Pihwai Madrinks”. The hip hop singer said he was promising a show of a lifetime at the festival.
With such a mixed bag, this year’s Hifa edition promises to be a thriller.
Maria Wilson, the executive director of the festival, was satisfied with the line-up.
“We are moving in all directions and are excited by the possibilities ahead of us as a Festival team, as a city and as country. The theme echoes the feeling we want our audiences to have,” she said.
