DIFFERENT versions are emerging in the wake of the death of the 18-year-old St Faith’s High School Form Four student.
He committed suicide under unclear circumstances.
Some of the sources claim Tatenda Kapuya was facing resistance from his fellow students to listen to his prayers.
Others claimed he refused to fast along with other students ahead of the end-of-year examinations.
It is reported that some students labelled him a ‘Satanist,’ after he refused to fast.
Tatenda was buried in Domboshava on Sunday, along with all his belongings.
The funeral wake was attended by fellow students from St Faith’s High School.
He left a suicide note, along with the diagram, which were found on a table in his dormitory.
It reads:
“Yaa bepa ramatora nderangu ndaida kuzviuraya then I thought I could get some attention to (reveal) all that was stressing me.
“But, now, guess you just don’t care anymore, Ngoni sorry, mom sorry, everyone sorry.
“I was a burden and now I have to go.”
Close sources said the deceased was a troubled student.
“He left a suicide note which he drew a diagram which was showing fellow students surrounding him.
“In the diagram, the students were attacking him while he was in the centre.
“He looked so troubled,” said the source.
Another source said Tatenda resisted a prayer-and-fasting session proposed by fellow students.
“Students had planned a fasting-and-prayer session prior to the examinations.
“So, what surprised them is that Tatenda refused to do like any other student, prompting them to label his character as ‘Satanic.’
“That affected him,” said a source.
Another source said:
“He was now praying for other students and some resisted it citing that he was now acting like a ‘Satanist.’
“Unfortunately his diary was not read at the graveyard.
“In the suicide note, it is said he exonerated the headmaster but only blamed him for not dealing with students who were attacking him,” added the source.
Investigations carried out by Rusape CID indicate that on September 22 show that, at around 10pm, the now deceased was taken to his mother’s residence by the school head Arnold Makamba, 54.
It is reported that the decision was taken to ensure his safety after he was being threatened by other students, who were accusing him of practising ‘Satanism’ at the school.
He was left in the custody of his mother, Sarudzai Kapuya, 49.
On September, 23, and at around 7am, he bade farewell to his mother claiming he intended to submit his academic CALA assignments, which were due at school.
He hanged himself in the dormitory.
“On arrival at the dormitory, the informant found the deceased hanging and was showing no signs of life.
“The informant immediately went on to advise Israel Chikonodanga, 44, a canteen supervisor at St Faith’s High School.
“The canteen supervisor then advised the St Faith’s High School boarding master Mike Mutisi, 47, who then advised the headmaster.
“The school then drove to the police, in the company of the informant, where a report was then made.
“According to investigations carried out, the scene was attended by ZRP Rusape Central and CID Rusape members.”
