THE Mlimi brothers — Josh and Jonathan — have fallen in love with Zimbabwe.

Rated among the best motocross riders in South Africa, Josh and Jonathan, have temporarily set their base in Zimbabwe.

They revealed yesterday that they will not be returning to South Africa anytime soon.

The two brothers arrived in Zimbabwe last month just before the penultimate round of the 2023 Bogwheelers Club National Motocross Championship series which was held at Donnybrook Park Raceway on September 17.

They came up here as guest riders after they were invited to the race meeting by their close friend and one of Zimbabwe’s top motocross champion riders, Emmanuel Bako.

During the fifth of the six-round Bogwheelers Club National Motocross Championship series, Josh and Jonathan took part in the seniors MX1 and MX2 classes respectively and they had a good outing, settling for second places in both categories.

And after competing in that event, the two talented South African dirt bike riders decided to pitch their tent in Harare ahead of two more motocross events that will be held at Donnybrook later this month and in December.

Speaking to Zimpapers Sports yesterday, Josh Mlimi said they were still in Zimbabwe and were hoping to compete in the final round of the 2023 Bogwheelers Club National Motocross Championship series at Donnybrook on October 22.

They will then take a short break before they start preparing for the season-ending 2023 Zimbabwe Summer Series that will be held at the same venue on December 6, 8 and 10.  Josh said they were looking forward to racing at this year’s Zimbabwe Summer Series where they will be part of more than 20 foreign riders who are reported to have expressed their interest in taking part in this big international motocross event.

“We will be there (at this year’s Zimbabwe Summer Series). We are still in Zimbabwe as we speak so we will be at the final round of the Bogwheelers Club National Motocross Championship series on the 22nd of October and then at the Zimbabwe Summer Series in December,” Josh Mlimi said.

This year’s Zimbabwe Summer Series will consist of two Supercross (night racing) on December 6 and 8 followed by a full day of motocross competition on Day Three of the event on December 10.

Last year’s competition attracted more than 20 foreign riders from the United States, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Botswana and Zambia.
