Young and versatile radio personality Teseletso “Mma Nare” Matjaka has been unveiled as one of the hosts for this year’s Pumula’s Got Talent (PGT), which is set to take place on July 18 in Pumula Old.

Now in its second edition, the talent showcase is spearheaded by creative outfit Yellow World and is open to singers, poets, beatboxers, dancers, comedians and performers from all artistic disciplines.

With a strong focus on unearthing hidden talent from Bulawayo’s high-density suburbs, the initiative seeks to provide emerging creatives with a platform to showcase their abilities and gain exposure that is often beyond their reach.

Yellow World director Mentor Dlamini said the project is centred on empowering young people through the arts while nurturing grassroots talent.

“Pumula’s Got Talent is an event designed to empower young people by focusing on grassroots arts. Although this edition is being held in Pumula, our broader vision is to take the platform to every suburb in Bulawayo, giving each community an opportunity to showcase its finest talent,” said Dlamini.

The inaugural edition of the competition was held at Pumula South Community Hall last year, and was hosted by Umnikazi Wempuphu and Bongie Diamond.

Its judging panel comprised respected arts practitioners Saimon “Mambazo” Phiri, Thando Ndlovu and Simbongeni Ncube, while the inaugural title was won by Creative Culxure.

As Pumula’s Got Talent returns for its second edition, organisers are optimistic that the competition will continue to ignite a creative wave across Bulawayo, providing a launchpad for the city’s next generation of stars.
