MMZUF golf day to benefit Army charities

The golf day, which will be followed by a fund-raising dinner on the same day, will be held on Friday next week at Borrowdale Brooke and Country Club under the theme “A Day on the Greens”.

MMZUFF was formed as a means to revive the Zimbabwe Army Wives and Women Association which was the brainchild of ZDF Commander General Constantine Chiwenga. MMZUFF chairperson Ms Mary Mubaiwa said in an interview that the funds raised on the day would go towards helping the wives of men in the armed forces, their children, retirees and war veterans.

“We want to empower women by giving them support financially, morally and emotionally,” she said.
“This golf day will also help improve access to education and facilitate the creation of employment for these women.”

Ms Mubaiwa said part of the proceeds from the golf day would buy equipment needed at Tsanga Lodge Convalescent Centre where members of the armed forces recuperate.

She said major sponsors for the tournament included mining and telecommunications companies, airlines, Rooney’s, Savanna Tobacco, Sam Levy’s Village, AMC, Nyaradzo and Pioneer.

Ms Mubaiwa said there would be a high- powered international delegation made up of ambassadors at the function.
The function was also open to corporates, charity organisations, churches and individuals. “In the evening, we will launch our ‘Donated Dream Envelope’, this is where participants will donate something towards fulfilling someone’s dream,” said Ms Mubaiwa.

“We are saying, the little you can spare, be it money or a service, put it in an envelope and give us so that we can assist those women and children who need it. We will not accept pledges on the day, we want something tangible.”
Ms Mubaiwa urged men in the military to help support the cause since it was going to benefit their wives.
