adminthe late national hero and Higher and Tertiary Education Minister Dr Stan Mudenge who died in October. Cde Mnangagwa said there was need for party cadres not to tussle for positions.
“We are all brothers and sisters in Zanu-PF and we should always make sure that we are united and not fight for positions in the party,” he said.
“I want to appeal to all our party cadres to remain united. No one is more important than the other in the party. We are all important as party cadres, brothers and sisters.”
Cde Mnangagwa said party leaders were supposed to discharge their duties in fulfillment of the tasks which they would have been assigned by the people. He described the late national hero Dr Mudenge as a hardworking and intelligent diplomat who made an invaluable contribution to Zimbabwe’s socio-economic development.
Cde Mnangagwa said Dr Mudenge was gifted with rare intelligence which made him a reputable diplomat, not only in the Sadc region, but the entire African continent.
“We are celebrating the life of a man who was intelligent and worked tirelessly for Zimbabwe to be where it is today,” he said.
“It is not everyday that we gather to celebrate the life of a person like Dr Mudenge whose track record as a diplomat is well known not only in the Sadc region, but also the entire African continent.”
Cde Mnangagwa chronicled Dr Mudenge’s history from the days of the liberation struggle up until independence in 1980, saying the late national hero was a consistent and reliable ambassador for Zimbabwe especially during the days when he worked as the country’s representative at the United Nations. He said Dr Mudenge managed to present the country’s case during his stint as Foreign Affairs Minister at a critical time for Zimbabwe as the country embarked on the land reform programme. Speaking at the same event, Zanu-PF Politburo member Cde Dzikamai Mavhaire said the only way to pay tribute to the late Dr Mudenge was to fulfill his dream of consolidating unity in Zanu-PF in Masvingo.
