Mngqithi set to sign 4-year contract as Mamelodi Sundowns head coach

FARPost has established that Manqoba Mngqithi is set to sign a four-year deal as the new head coach of South Africa football champions Mamelodi Sundowns after successful negotiations between parties.

The 57-year-old coach will take charge after the Brazilians parted ways with Rulani Mokwena, who has since taken the reins at Wydad Casablanca in Morocco.

Mngqithi, who has been with the club since 2014, previously held the Senior Coach position under the sole leadership of Mokwena. Steve Komphela, recently returning after his stint at Golden Arrows, has since assumed that role.

As previously reported by this publication, Mngqithi’s agent, Mike Makaab, revealed that a deal has been agreed to in principle. However, the man from uMzimkhulu in KZN hasn’t put pen to paper as of yet.

“The deal for Manqoba Mngqithi to become Mamelodi Sundowns head coach has been concluded in principle. We are left with paperwork, which should be done this coming week.” Makaab told FARPost.

Moreover, Masandawana have also bolstered the technical team with the addition of Romain Folz as an assistant coach. The French-Moroccan coach has previously coached Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu FC in the DStv Premiership. His most recent job was performance manager at FIFA.

Wendell Robinson holds the dual role of goalkeeper coach and assistant coach, with Kennedy providing additional support in the goalkeeping department. The league and African Football League champions are currently out in Austria, where they are holding their pre-season camp in preparation for the upcoming season.

They have also welcomed three signings to strengthen the team – Kobamelo Kodisang, Arthur de Oliveira Sales and Kegan Johannes. Meanwhile, as first reported by this website, they are also closing in on Sekhukhune United left-back Asekho Tiwani, who could be their fourth acquisition.
