boardroom at Celebration Centre with the ultimate price of US$25 000?
Certainly those with crystal balls have been looking through them anxiously, but I assure you this is not an easy one since the two finalists are solid in their business approach. Although I would generally love to be in Nigel Chanakira’s shoes, I do not particularly envy him right now. The two contestants have achieved a lot to get to where they are right now.
Godwin sold 10 vehicles on behalf of Willowvale Mazda Motor Industries, which proved how competitive our local motor industry is in the face of cheap imports.
Odert on the other hand, led a team that sold over 700 refrigeration units, impressing the team from Capri, who sponsored the particular task.
What viewers have learnt from the two individuals throughout the show is amazing but what I would like to share is the fact that entrepreneurs have different traits and are never shaped by the same mould.
Godwin is the quieter but rather analytical entrepreneur. His ability to focus on tasks and clearly understand the deliverables was useful in a number of tasks.
He has never been one who is afraid to lead from the back. For those who follow the show, there was a time during the Pinnacle Task that team leader Sandisiwe Mahlangu went AWOL in Plumtree and Godwin stepped into her shoes and led the team to save them from shame.
The team lost but the young man saved them from total embarrassment. Odert on the other hand, is more of an aggressive entrepreneur, who is driven by ambition.
She is the type to hear a good idea and run with it. Her strength is in implementation.
I recall talking to her the night that the top five finalists were given their task to identify and engage a single Buy Zimbabwe partner that they would help to sell its product or service. While her fellow contestants were still basking in the glory of their victory and enjoying the drinks, Odert took advantage of the evening to establish partnerships. She told me she had already secured a partner and there was another one, who had expressed keen interest in working with her.
Compare the two’s leadership styles and you would probably discover that Odert is more of a micro-manager. She likes to observe and control the work of her subordinates but I am not saying she is a control freak.
Godwin is more of a macro-manager, who prefers to lead decision-makers hence he gave his charges the autonomy to push the envelope and bring results.
Now that the two are going head-to-head in the final, it remains to be seen who will emerge the winner.
For those who have been consulting clairvoyants, this is an opportunity to put them to test.
Predicting the winner between Odert and Godwin puts you in line to win a viewers’ grand prize of US$1 000.
You simply SMS the name of your favourite finalist to 15626. Between now and the finals, daily instant prizes can also be won by texting during the show’s Radio slot on StarFM between 6-6:15pm.
We would like to thank StarFM for being My Own Boss’ official media partner and helping deliver these great prizes to viewers across Zimbabwe.
Before I sign off, I would like to remind drivers on our country’s roads to exercise extreme caution and play it safe. It seems the excitement of the festive season has gripped people quite early.
Remember we are promoting ‘Zero Carnage’ on our roads this festive season. Carnage on Zimbabwe’s roads is pandemic. Over and above, fight for an Aids-free generation and protect the environment.
The Let’s Go Zero Campaign aims to reduce the death toll on our roads and make them safer for every road user. This makes more sense considering the unprecedented increase of vehicles and more so, unlicensed drivers on our roads.
Till next week . . . God bless.
