To enhance sanitation and curb disease outbreaks like cholera, the Government is advocating for the widespread usage of mobile toilets at large public gatherings.
This underscores the Government’s commitment to enhancing sanitation infrastructure and safeguarding public health nationwide.
Secretary for Health and Child Care, Dr Aspect Maunganidze said many events lack proper sanitation, thereby contributing to the spreading of diseases.
“Mobile toilets play a crucial role in improving sanitation and hygiene, especially in communities that face constraints in terms of infrastructure, resources, or access to proper sanitation services,” he said.
Dr Maunganidze also highlighted the importance of proper waste disposal and hygiene management, urging local authorities to monitor compliance with sanitation standards.
Zimbabwe Mobile Sanitation Association (ZMSA) president, Mr Boston Muteya praised the initiative.
“The move by the Ministry of Health and Child Care shows that they are making concerted efforts to eliminate all future outbreaks of diseases such as cholera and other waterborne diseases,” he said, adding that mobile toilet operators should come on board through ZMSA.
