LOCAL models and designers have come together to host a fashion expo aimed at raising funds for cancer patients in Bulawayo.

The Fashion Designers Expo Zimbabwe (FDE) taking place on Saturday at Nesbitt Castle is the brainchild of South Africa-based Zimbabwean model-cum-fashion designer Aisha DeBeer.

Designers showcasing at the event include Sibahle by Yolanda, Eve O Designs, Double 1 Six Designs, Andie Reign Designs, The Tribe Called, Sean, Taffy Designs, Harare Eastern Wear, Litso, Andre and Aiish Inspired.

DeBeer said the loss of her grandmother to the disease motivated her to do something to assist those suffering from cancer.

“My grandmother passed away 10 years ago due to cancer. As a result of her death, I founded Fashion Designer Expo Zimbabwe as a way of paying a special tribute to her and many others that we have lost to the same disease.

“My plan is to raise funds for the ones that need it the most,” said DeBeer.

She said tickets to the one-day expo were already on sale.

“Those willing to support the cause can buy advance tickets at LNA and Lifestyle Pharmacy (situated at Zonkezizwe shopping complex), Bee Creatice (Hillside Shopping Centre), Video World and Glow (Ascot Shopping Centre). The tickets are being sold for $10.”

As part of fundraising, stalls where food and fashion accessories will be sold will be erected at the Garden of Hope Market at Nesbitt Castle in the afternoon.

The fashion show is expected to start at 6PM with Arthur Evans hosting the event. Entertainment will be provided by Rudo Gumbo, Shanice, Break Equation Crew, Antivirus, Bollywood Dancers, Mandi and Trish Pullen.

“The aim of the event is to bring more and more brands to the forefront and provide them with the exposure they need and deserve as well as entertain Bulawayo with the wide variety of style and trends for the benefit of the cause to aid the cancer patients in Bulawayo,” said DeBeer.

Former Miss Zimbabwe title winners Lorraine Maphala and Samantha Tshuma, Mrs Universe Zimbabwe 2016 finalist Tracey-Anne Buckely Aggett, and Karin Evans Davidson from Top Model Zimbabwe are expected to grace the event.

An after party will be held at The DC at Ascot Racecourse from 10PM.
