CHARLES Moffat was the toast of the show and his wonder goal carried the day for Yadah in this exciting Castle Lager Premier Soccer League tie against Herentals at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.
Matches between the two Harare rivals have always been explosive since The Students were promoted into the top-flight in 2018.
With all but only one game having ended in draws, Herentals were looking for their first win over the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries side.
But it wasn’t to be as Moffat settled the low profile derby, that is however growing in stature as witnessed by the decent crowd at the giant facility yesterday. The match started at an electrifying pace with Yadah winger Mandlenkosi Mlilo crashing his effort against the crossbar at the quarter-hour mark.
With both teams playing an open game, Archmore Majarira’s flying header was saved by Yadah goalie Panashe Nyabunga two minutes before the half hour mark.
It was a good game of football with both sides showing some excellent glimpses including history-making Innocent Benza of Herentals who celebrated his 52nd birthday yesterday.
Yadah coach Expense Chitukutuku shuffled his cards well at the break and he brought in Moffat for Kibaki Dhlamini at the resumption.
The change worked wonders for the Prophet Walter Magaya team who started dominating most aspects with Moffat at the heart of everything.
Twenty minutes before time, Moffat volleyed a surprise shot that beat Chigumba to seal Yadah’s third win this season.
Chitukutuku hailed his charges’ fighting spirit.
“I am extremely happy with how we played today. It wasn’t an easy game for us. But we managed to neutralise them and win this game,” said Chitukutuku.
“I am impressed with how we carried ourselves in the second half. Moffat did so well and I would like to thank our supporters who kept on cheering us and encouraging the boys”.
His opposite number Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva said his team lost it on their failure to effectively transition from defence to attack.
Yadah climbed from 15th to 12th on the log with 11 points to their name, same as their victims yesterday after 10 matches but they have an inferior goal difference.
Herentals, on the other hand, remained 10th on the log.
