Thousands of families benefited from the programme where inputs such as fertiliser, seed maize, sorghum, sugar beans and cowpeas were distributed at various ward centres in the district.
There are 15 rural wards in Beitbridge. The district was allocated 30 tonnes of seed maize, 71 tonnes fertiliser, 10,76 tonnes sorghum, nine tonnes pearl millet, three tonnes groundnuts, four tonnes sugar beans and six tonnes of cowpeas. Addressing communal farmers at Zezani Business Centre, Minister Mohadi applauded President Mugabe for helping the people. He said the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces had never let the country down.
Minister Mohadi said President Mugabe continued to launch various community development and empowerment programmes for the people. He said the inputs were being distributed to the community as part of Zanu-PF’s quest to improve agriculture production in the country.
Minister Mohadi challenged beneficiaries to put the seed to good use for the country’s agrarian reform to succeed. He said the agricultural sector was not getting enough support from the inclusive Government hence the President had to employ other means to help farmers acquire the much needed farm implements.
“We should make good use of this seed for our agrarian reform to become a success story The country’s economic recovery lies in the increased agriculture production, which as Government we are striving to achieve and we urge all stakeholders to complement us in achieving this feat,” said Minister Mohadi.
