A DOG led to the arrest of a Mutare woman after it extracted the body of a newly born baby she had buried in a hill in Munyahwa Village under Chief Zimunya.
It is alleged that the woman, Nomatter Chikwiramokomo, gave birth on her own while doing laundry at a nearby stream and killed the baby.
“Nomatter was heavily pregnant when she went to a nearby stream to do her laundry.

“She developed labour pains and gave birth to a baby boy.
“She wrapped the baby in her blouse and went to a nearby hill where she killed the baby.
“She piled stones on top of the baby until it was completely buried,” said deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda.

Nomatter went home and kept what had happened a secret.
“On June 21, a boy went to look for stray cattle in the company of his dog when he realised that his dog was extracting something out of the piled stones.

“He stopped the dog when he noticed that it was a baby.
“He went home and advised villagers on what he had discovered. A report was made to the police.
“Investigations carried out led to Nomatter’s arrest,” said Asst Insp Chananda.
