A 48-year-old man from Seke has been arrested in a shocking case that has rocked Chounda Village. HE allegedly raped and killed his 67-year-old aunt before stealing her cellphone.
Farai Machaka is accused of sexually assaulting Ruth Elizabeth Kadara before strangling her to death in her kitchen hut on 5 June 2025. Her lifeless body was later discovered by villagers who immediately alerted police.
Police investigations unearthed chilling details of the abuse. Machaka allegedly violated his aunt, then ended her life and walked away with her cellphone, a device he probably thought would cover his tracks.
But detectives moved in swiftly, recovering the stolen phone from the suspect, leading to his arrest.
“This is a deeply disturbing case. We condemn such brutal acts in the strongest terms and urge the public to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station,” said national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi.
Machaka is expected to appear in court soon facing charges of murder and sexual assault.
