A SOMBRE funeral in Tsholotsho’s Bhule Village turned into a crime scene after mourners allegedly unleashed a deadly mob attack on a suspected thief.

Police have arrested four men in connection with the gruesome murder of Somiso Ndlovu (45), who was allegedly caught red-handed breaking into a nearby home during a funeral wake.

The arrested suspects have been named as Musa Donga (45), Nkosilathi Nkomo (56), Benjamin Moyo (51) and Calbert Nkomo (45).

According to police, the incident occurred on 13 June 2025. The quartet, who were among mourners gathered at a homestead in Bhule Village, spotted Somiso trying to gain unlawful entry into a neighbouring house.

The sacred gathering for the departed quickly spiralled into chaos and violence. Enraged, the suspects allegedly pounced on Somiso and gave him a thorough beating using fists, feet and possibly blunt objects.

By the time the dust settled, Somiso was unconscious. He succumbed to his injuries before help could arrive.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests, saying investigations are underway.
“Police in Tsholotsho arrested four suspects in connection with a murder case that occurred at Bhule Village. The suspects allegedly assaulted the victim after finding him breaking into a house near the funeral venue,” said Comm Nyathi.

The suspects are in custody and are expected to appear in court soon facing murder charges.

As villagers grapple with the shocking turn of events, the incident has reignited debate on mob justice and community safety.

What was supposed to be a final farewell ended in tragedy with one coffin not enough.
