BY the time Killer T jumped onto the stage around 9pm, revellers were already in ecstasy and fired up for a long exciting night, thanks to the energetic performance of well-acclaimed radio personality and club deejay, Abisha Palmer.
The Montclair Annual Winter Festival held at Montclair Hotel and Casino in Juliasdale last Saturday lived up to its billing, with Killer T and Jah Prayzah putting up impressive and unforgettable performances in front of a packed auditorium.
Scores of people who attended the event braved up the chilly temperatures of Nyanga to be part of the fete which is held annually in June, and was popularised by the late national hero, Oliver Mtukudzi, who would headline the event.
By Thursday afternoon, advance tickets had been sold out and some people had to acquire them on the day at the venue.
Despite a whooping admission of US$40 at the gate, people stormed the hotel’s auditorium and had it filled up by 11pm.
The Public Address system was top notch, while the security team worked tirelessly to ensure that revellers could enjoy without any security fears.
Abisha Palmer performed first and managed to keep fun lovers on their feet before the main performances.
Killer T, who was backed by a live band, was as energetic as ever. He communicated well with his fans and belted out sing-along songs such as ‘Usazoda Kumakidzira’, ‘Hwahwa Moyo Wangu Dzikama’, ‘Hondo’ and the crowd favourite, ‘Hakete’ which he played thrice, thanks to some fans’ requests, with some even bringing monetary tokens.
Man-of-moment, Jah Prayzah and his elegantly-dressed Third Generation Band did not waste time and jumped on stage at around 11pm.
He kept revelers of their feet for more than two hours before he signed off with traditional folklore song ‘Goto’.
The event started off with a golf tournament last week on Friday.
For the Junior Golf tournament, 57 players participated and the overall winner was Garrick Duff from Christian Brothers College in Bulawayo.
In the senior tournament, 48 players participated and the duo from Amen corner/Rawsons —Silas Chiza and Ray Van Essen — won.
One of the event organisers and marketing executive, Busi Tutani said they were excited with the turn-out.
“We are grateful to all who came out and joined us on the day. It was through their support that the event was a success, not only for us, but the entire Juliasdale community.
“Special mention goes to the management and staff who worked tirelessly to put everything together, as well as those who assisted in logistical issues such as ticketing, among other things. We look forward to the next great event in the final quarter of the year,” she said.
