MOONLIGHT Funeral Assurance have donated soccer kits to Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) Clubs Ntabazinduna Football Club and Bulawayo Prison Football club with the aim of encouraging and promoting fitness and strength among Prison Officers through soccer.
Moonlight donated kits to the two clubs to contribute in keeping Zimbabwe Prison Officers fit and healthy when attending to their duties. Moonlight is also trying to promote soccer in Zimbabwe as Ntabazinduna is in the Southern Region Division One League and Bulawayo Prison is playing in the social league.
The Sunday News sports crew on Wednesday spoke to Chenai Nyamupfukudza, the Moonlight regional manager for Matabeleland and she said Moonlight wanted to venture on other things rather than death- related issue .
“We want to play a role on social scenes as most of the people link us to death related issues only, we’re on a mission to venture into other sports,” she said.
Moonlight has over the years donated kits and sports equipment to various organisations especially from the military. They once donated kits to teams like, the Zimbabwe National Army’s Signals, a netball kit to the female netball team at Imbizo Barracks and a soccer kit to the Zimbabwe Republic Police Bulawayo District. The company also donated kits to a team in Vumbachingwe Mine in Gwanda and the ZPCS Hwange.
“It’s a matter of giving back to the community, we’ve got 42 branches nationwide with the majority of our clients being civil servants. This is another way to say thank you to the them (civil servants) for the support that they have given us,” she said
According to Nyamupfukudza, Moonlight has their own soccer team which clinched the Insurance Industry Tournament last year.
Nhamo Moffat, the team manager of Ntabazinduna Football Club said the club was grateful to Moonlight. “We appreciate the donations and we are very grateful to what Moonlight has done to us. By these donations, I’m sure the boys’ morale will be boosted,” said Moffat.
