A COMPOSED century by Peter Joseph Moor was the rock on which MidWest Rhinos built their emphatic nine-wicket win over the Matabeleland Tuskers in a Pro50 championship match at Kwekwe Sports Club yesterday. Tuskers tumbled to just 189-9 after being thrown in to bat upon losing the toss.
Moor powered a flawless match-winning 104 off 119 balls in a patient reply and this was the former Zimbabwe Under-19 captain’s maiden century in domestic first class cricket.
All-rounder Godwill Mamhiyo added 50 runs from 74 balls and his innings came to an end when he was bowled by Mike Chinouya and the Tuskers were reeling at 168-6 in the 46th over.
Tuskers were fortunate to get past the 150-mark as the Rhinos gave away 27 extras.
But still there was a collapse, after Mamhiyo’s departure, as they lost their last four wickets for 18 runs.
Chinouya had kept the visitors at bay claiming three wickets for 45 runs in his 10 overs.
He was helped by former Mashonaland Eagles all-rounder mark Mbofana who took two wickets for 35 runs in eight overs.
When Tawanda Mupariwa had Bothwell Chapungu caught for 16 runs in the seventh over, with the Rhinos on 25, it appeared a match was on the card.
P.J. Moor had opened the batting and was joined by Ronnie Chokununga and together the pair added 162 runs for the second wicket.
The match between Southern Rocks and Mountaineers did not produce a result as it was abandoned due to rain at a time when the Duckworth-Lewis rules could not be enforced.
Rocks batted first, scoring 176 runs in 43.4 overs, and only 11.4 overs were played in the Mountaineers innings and by then the Mutare side had lost three wickers for 24 runs.
