Two more suspected robbers have appeared in court in connection with the murder of a police officer who was found dead in Hatfield, Harare after being robbed of US$48 and a mobile phone.
Blessing Mungofa (26) who is also appearing at the Marondera Magistrate Court for robbery charges and Kudakwashe Chikukwa (18) appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Elijah Makomo.
The two are facing murder charges and were remanded in custody to November 11 and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Raymond Maguri (25), Alois Samuel (24), Shadreck Binze (26), Mathew Murehwa (23) and Daniel Mabhena (18) have already appeared in court on similar charges.
Prosecutor Mr Tungamirai Chakurira alleged that on September 28, the deceased Timothy Mbova, reported for duty at Harare Central Police Station.
He said Mbova was deployed at the Chibuku Road to Fame Show at Harare Showgrounds from 10pm to 2am.
After completing his duty, he went to Harare Central Police Station where he was paid US$48.
While at the police station, he changed into civilian clothes and packed his uniform in a satchel.
He left to look for transport to Mabvuku where he stayed.
Around 5.15am, Mbova was found dead, lying half naked along Twentydales Road in Hatfield and a post-mortem revealed that he died due to suffocation.
On October 1, police received information that Maguri was in possession of Mbova’s cellphone which was recovered upon his arrest. Mbova implicated Samuel, who in turn told the police that Binze and Murehwa were the ones who sold him the deceased’s cellphone.
On October 11, follow ups were made leading to the arrest of Binze and Murehwa who implicated Mabhena.
On October 25 detectives received information that Michael Ziira known as Sibale was arrested in Marondera for robbery and they went there to interview him.
He implicated Mungofa, Chikukwa, Kudakwashe Jongwe and Chamu, who is also known as Chamela.
