TWO suspects arrested for allegedly robbing a Filabusi businessman, have now been linked to a spate of armed robberies reported in Matabeleland South.
Melusi Mbiyake Moyo (42) of Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo and Godfrey Kapopo (49) of Dirihori village under Chief Svosve in Mashonaland East, were arrested in Marondera last Monday.
They allegedly committed the crimes with two other suspects who are still at large. In one of the cases, Mbiyake and Kapopo allegedly phoned a Filabusi businessman and told him that they were selling gold.
When he invited them to his house, they then allegedly robbed him.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the arrest of the two suspects.
“I can confirm that we have arrested two suspects and they will soon appear in court facing robbery charges,” he said.
Inspector Ndebele said they suspect that Mbiyake and Kapopo and their accomplices who are on the run, are linked to other armed robberies reported in Matabeleland South province.
In December, a mine-owner in Gwanda was kidnapped, tortured and shot in both legs before being robbed of his car by his former employee who was in the company of three others.
The former worker had earlier called him claiming that he had about 200 grammes of gold that he wanted to sell.—@winnie_masara.
