MORE people in Masvingo’s Eastvale suburb are likely to be arrested amid reports that the eight dogs that allegedly mauled a four-year-old boy to death before leaving another 10-year-old child for dead belonged to a number of people. Police said while only two dog owners, Ahmad Amon, 59 and Edward Murakatirwa, 33, of Mangwandi Street, have been cited as having a case to answer, more face arrest as it emerged that the dogs belonged to more than two residents.
Acting Masvingo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dehwa said while a charge had been laid against the two dog owners, investigations were continuing to ascertain the owners of the other dogs.
He said once a full investigation has been carried out, those identified to be the owners of the killer dogs would be taken to court. “We’re still investigating the killer-dogs case and we’ve pressed charges against Amon and Murakatirwa. Investigations are continuing as we feel that more information should be gathered and it means more are likely to be arrested,” said Asst Insp Dehwa.
On Sunday at around 4PM, a group of eight dogs pounced on Success Kasanhayi of Shakashe Street who was playing with four other children. The dogs dragged him into a nearby bush before mauling him all over the body. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Two hours after the attack, the same dogs which were still roaming the streets, attacked a 10-year-old boy and left him badly injured.
