More roads across the country have been lined up for rehabilitation under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme Phase 2 (ERRP2), as the Second Republic continues to prioritise national transport infrastructure and infrastructural development for economic growth.
Some of the roads have been completed while others are still at the tendering stage.
Significant progress in the rehabilitation of a number of roads in different parts of the country has been made, to ensure trafficability.
In a statement yesterday, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona said the Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa was not leaving anyone behind in terms of development.
He said under ERRP2, they were prioritising reconstruction of roads in rural and urban areas.
In Harare province, the roads scheduled for rehabilitation include the 7,8km Chiratidzo-Gudza-Waterland Road in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza, Glen Norah (Sebakwe Road 1,6km Road) will be resealed, Gumbie and Zambezi Road 1km road reconstruction and 2,5km asphalt overlay, Highfield East (Machipisa Main Road 2km road reconstruction), Highfield West (Gazaland Road 1,4km road reconstruction), Glen View North (12th and 13th Avenue 2km road reconstruction), Kuwadzana (Kuwadzana Road/ First Avenue 3,9km asphalt overlay) and Kuwadzana East.
Others are Muwonde Road 3,5km asphalt overlay in Mufakose, Kambuzuma (Westwood Drive 3,5km asphalt overlay), Lytton/Kambuzuma Road (5,8km asphalt overlay), Harare Central (Harare Airport Access Roads (Braeside) 4,5km road reconstruction), Harare East (Timba Close 0,5km road reseal), (Kent-Lewisam Roads 2km asphalt overlay), Epworth (Delport Road 5km road construction and 2km asphalt overlay).
In Bulawayo Metropolitan they will attend to Ziyaphapha Drive in Pumula where 3,8km of road would be resealed and in Nkulumane where the road resealing of about 2,6 km of Khuzwayo Road would be done.
Manicaland has Dangamvura/Chikanga, where 8km of Magamba Road will be rehabilitated, Musikavanhu Road 2km of resealing, in Mutasa South (Odzani Road 48km road grading), Pass-Penhalonga-Watsomba 12km regravelling and 27km bush clearing and the Stapleford Road Culvert and gabion construction.
In the Midlands, the roads are in Kwekwe Central, where Mbizo Road’s 9km would be rehabilitated, Amaveni Road 5,6km road rehabilitation, Gokwe Central (Spar-Catholic Loop 2,5km road reconstruction), Mberengwa Central (Mberengwa-Mataga 40km regravelling), Mkoba-Chilimanzi Road 1,7km road reconstruction, Chidhanana Road 1km road construction and Igonte Road 1km road construction.
Other roads are in Matabeleland North, Mashonaland East, and Masvingo provinces.
The New Dispensation under the leadership of President Mnangagwa is committed to working towards infrastructure development and creating employment for the locals.
So far, over $1 billion has been spent on road rehabilitation, gravelling and drainage structuring as part of the Second Republic’s ERRP2 launched by President Mnangagwa.
The Second Republic believes that modernising national transport infrastructure will spur economic growth and development.
Over 2 000km of roads have been re-gravelled, while 6 627,9km have been graded with 701 drainage structures constructed or repaired and 184 wash-aways reclaimed.
Across the country, 4 491,5km of drains have been opened while 6 141,2km of verges have been cleared with progress continuing to be made on the patching of potholes with a cumulative of 4 794,8km having been attended to.
