Labour and Social Services Minister Paurina Mpariwa revealed the latest figures at a ceremony to mark the World Day for Safety and Health at Work held in Harare on Friday.
She said a total 1 447 work-related accidents with 32 fatalities were recorded in the first quarter of this year compared to 1 266 accidents with 29 fatalities over the same period last year.
“It is likely that statistics are higher than this if the informal sector is considered.” Minister Mpariwa said the major causes of work-related accidents included poor level of recapitalisation of business, poor investment in occupational safety and health.
