FORMER Commonwealth flyweight boxing champion, Zvenyika ‘Mosquito’ Arifonso is backing Kudakwashe Chiwandire in her defence of the World Boxing Council (WBC) interim super bantamweight world title.
She takes on Zulina Munoz of Mexico at the Harare International Conference Centre on Saturday. Mosquito has thrown his weight behind Take Money after the two boxers’ faced off at the HICC yesterday.
“We are here to support Chiwandire. Our presence here will motivate her,” said Chiwandire.
“She is a world champion but she should not let that get into her head too much.
“She should focus on attaining her goals.
“She will definitely retain her title. She is very good, strong and fit. She can do it.”
Chiwandire said she was bracing for the big challenge before her home fans.
The majority of them were not in attendance when she won the title in Lusaka.
“This is my home and I won’t let anyone down.
“In the same way I won against Catherine (Phiri), who was later admitted to hospital for three days, Munoz has to be strong because that is also going to happen to her.
“I will be looking for a knockout,” said Chiwandire.
She added:
“I am not worried about the postponement of the fight which happened in the past.
“It also happened with my fight against Catherine in Zambia, so I am not even bothered by it.
“The good thing is we are here and the fight is on.
“A lot has changed.
“The way I thought she was and what I am seeing of her now is all different.
“I will do a lot of talking in the ring.”
Munoz, who comes from a country that has produced a number of world boxing champions, said she was looking forward to returning home a world champion.

The vastly-experienced Munoz has 70 professional fights under her belt, and an impressive 40 knockouts.
