FORMER Commonwealth flyweight boxing champion, Zvenyika “Mosquito” Arifonso, has ventured into music.
Mosquito is now honing his skills behind the microphone under the tutelage of musician, Landmine Madongonda.
The boxing trainer has collaborated with Madongonda on a new song titled Mukoma Neri.
It was recorded at Zim Talent Studios by Trust Chipisa.
“I was sitting on this talent until my brother Landmine Madongonda asked me to accompany him into the studio,” he said.
“After this experience, nothing will stop me from recording new stuff because I have mastered a lot.
“With the help of Madongonda, I would like to record a complete album soon.
“In life you need to multi-task because you might be sitting on many talents.
“I know many people know me as a boxer but now I am trying my luck as a singer.
“In life you need to appreciate people who have faith in you, especially Madongonda who has been there for me.
“I really appreciate his love and the way he has been pushing me to do more.”
Madongonda said Mosquito was a hero who deserves to be honoured.
“Mosquito has been a good friend of mine and we always exchange notes.
“I was also a boxer but I didn’t make it to the top.
“I decided to venture into music and I have been recording regularly.
“I have just recorded three singles namely Ndomunamata, Usaore Moyo and Mukoma Neri featuring Mosquito,” he said.
Madongonda told H-Metro that he was now working on the visuals for the single featuring Mosquito.
“We are happy with the airplay that we have been receiving but now we are committed to the visuals.
“Music videos have proved to be the new trick in showbiz as fans relate more with you.
“Gone are the days when musicians of our generation used to have a lackadaisical approach when it came to the production of videos.
“To be honest, we can’t afford to operate the way we did 20 years ago,” he added.
