Mrs Thandiwe Jabangwe said her children, seven-year-old Rutendo and three-year-old Kudakwashe, were supposed to have gone for the operation in February but she failed to raise the money required for the treatment.
Xeroderma pigmentosa is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder in which the ability to repair damage caused by ultraviolet light is deficient.
Symptoms include severe sunburn when exposed to sunlight, eyes that are painfully sensitive to the sun, rough surface skin cracks and skin cancers.
Mrs Jabangwe said her children were suffering as they were not able to play with their friends outdoors.
Exposure to the sunlight would cause blistering.
Rutendo is also developing growths on her tongue.
“They have undergone several operations but there has not been any change. I was supposed to take them to South Africa for chemotherapy, but I failed to raise the funds. Now they are booked for July and am appealing to fellow Zimbabweans to assist in any way they could,” she said.
