A woman yesterday dragged her son to the Harare Civil Court accusing him of selling her household property to buy marijuana. Charity Rathliwe claimed Tapiwanashe Matanhire (24) was also in the habit of ransacking her bedroom looking for money to buy drugs.

Rathliwe was seeking a protection order against Matanhire whom she accused of disrespecting her as his mother.

“He sells my household property and valuables without my consent and uses the money to buy marijuana,” she said.

Rathliwe told magistrate Ms Audrey Tarugarira that Matanhire sometimes smokes marijuana inside the house.

“He comes to my workplace demanding money and if I don’t give him, he verbally abuses me with obscene words in front of my workmates.

“Each time he smokes marijuana he starts physically abusing his young sister and destroying my household property,” said Rathliwe.

She told the court that she was now living in pain and fear because of Matanhire’s violent behaviour.

Matanhire did not show up at the court. Ms Tarugarira granted the order in default which barred Matanhire from threatening, physically or verbally abusing her.

She also ordered Matanhire to keep peace towards Rathliwe at all times.
