A 62-year-old Gutu man was lucky to escape jail after he severely assaulted his mother-in-law with a log for barging into his bedroom stark naked in the dead of night.Bracho Magariro of Tsaurai Village in Chimombe communal lands struck Rebecca Marisa (age not given).
Gutu resident magistrate Mr Nyasha Vitorini on Wednesday fined Magariro US$100 or alternatively three months in jail after convicting him of assault.
In his defence, Magariro argued that he assaulted his mother-in-law after mistaking her for a witch.
Agreed facts were that at around 1am on April 2, Marisa stormed into Magariro’s bedroom totally unclothed and he charged at her and she fled.
Magariro picked up a log and struck Marisa three times on the back, seriously injuring her in the process.
A report was made at Bhasera Police Station leading to Magariro’s arrest.
