MOTHER JAILED FOR STRIKING CHILD WITH A BRICK

A WOMAN has been jailed for two years for striking her child with a brick.

Debra Masese (33) was charged with physical abuse when she appeared at the Mutare Magistrate’s Court.

She will serve 16 months effectively after 8 months were suspended.

The State heard that last month, Debra struck her 11-year-old daughter, Makanaka Masese, with a brick on the right side of the head and she became unconscious.

Debra was angry that Makanaka had not washed some plates.

She had left her in the company of her brother when she went to the Mutare CBD.

After Makanaka became unconscious, Debra took her to a clinic for treatment.

Neighbours tipped authorities about the attack and Debra was arrested.
