The official opening, which took place on last Saturday, coincided with the school’s Open Day.
Guest speaker Deputy Provincial Education Director Mrs Joyce Maphosa applauded the school’s chief executive officer, Mrs Salome Mutsinze, for a job well done.
“I would like to thank Mrs Mutsinze and her team of Mother Touch for a job well done as they are complementing the objectives of the Ministry of Education. The ministry’s objective is to see ECD children learn through play and not formally, as evidenced by the activities they are displaying,” said Mrs Maphosa.
Mrs Maphosa also said any child is an essential component in the education system and her ministry is advocating for child friendly learning environment.
Speaking at the same event, ECD co-ordinator Mr Pedzisai Masvaure commended the event saying the activities playing grounds were within the parameters of the ECD programme in terms of developing total children.
He said the appearance of the playing rooms and outdoor area met the requirements of the ECD programme.
District sports and recreation officer Stonard Mapfumo, who was among the guests at the event, said the place was spacious which allows children to take part in sporting activities like athletics, modified ball games which helped to develop their hand-eye co-ordination and quick decision- making.
In her speech, Mrs Mutsinze said it was through God’s power as the construction of the buildings began in 2009.
“I really want to thank God for this because though there were many strings attached on the way especially considering the fact that we do not have donors we depend on the funds budgeted from children’s school fees.”
“Our main objective here is to develop children holistically, build life, build children who have focus through Jesus Christ and can demonstrate love,” said Mrs Mutsinze.
Mrs Mutsinze’s sentiments were complemented by an amazing performance by the ECD pupils in a play titled “The Story of Jesus by Children in 45 Minutes”.
They imitated the life of Jesus Christ until his time of death, in a superb act which was described by Mother Peace principal Mrs Sheila Mabika as hilarious and innovative.
“Each year the ECDs present this play of Jesus Christ so I would like to thank the teachers for the good work they do especially Mrs Mutsinze, the director of all these activities” said Mrs Mabika.
Entertainment was provided by the ECD percussion band and the ECD marimba children who also presented traditional dances, drummies, showing off some culture activities like weeding, moulding, showing off traditional meals like sadza of rapoko and game meat.
Mrs Mutsinze also presented gifts to all ECD kids in attendance and the kids were happy as the gifts comprised of toys, face towels, books, crayons and many others.
Mr Mapfumo also encouraged other schools to emulate what Mother Touch is doing in upholding culture as a whole.
Mrs Mabika thanked the parents for working together with the school administration and their support in every aspect. She urged them to continue doing so for the success of the community at large.
