Basketball and Baseball teams from Mother Touch Group of Schools (MTGS) are set to tour the United States of America (USA) next year on a sports exchange programme.

The touring party will consist of 24 players, comprising of the institution’s boys’ and girls’ basketball and baseball teams, and they will tour the US as part of the school’s policy to expose their students to the international community.

With nine players from the school having returned from the Baseball Five World Cup Regional qualifiers with a silver medal, the school’s chief executive Salome Mutsinze said that this exchange programme is the next stop.

“We always strive to give our learners exposure and arrange international tours every year to places like the United Kingdom and other countries,” she said.

“We are glad to announce that on the list of the countries we are set to introduce next is the United States of America, and more specifically Texas.

“In 2025, our baseball and basketball teams will participate in invitational tournaments there.”

She said that, as part of the tour, the teams are set to hold training camps before participating in an invitational tournament where the players stand a chance of being rewarded with scholarships.

“These are not ordinary tours but the children who excel in the sporting events during the tours stand a chance of being rewarded with scholarships so that they can pursue their dreams,” said Mutsinze.

With sports having become one of the best-paying industries in the world, Mutsinze said that the partnerships that the school has with different colleges abroad will unlock opportunities for children who want to pursue sports as a career.

“As a school, our mission is to create a conducive environment for each child,” she said.

“We understand that it is not every child who is good academically, some are talented in sport, art and other disciplines.”
