Supermodel Harare auditions will take place this Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency, formerly known as Meikles Hotel.
This event marks the culmination of a national roadshow that has been showcasing diverse modeling talent across Zimbabwe since June.
Aspiring models from various cities will gather to compete for a coveted spot in a competition that emphasises not only beauty but also empowerment and advocacy within the modeling industry.
Paidemoyo Chideya, a key organiser of the event, expressed her excitement for the upcoming auditions.
“This is an opportunity for Zimbabwean talent to shine on a national stage,” she said.
“We are committed to not just modeling; we aim to empower individuals to brand themselves effectively in the digital age and elevate the creative economy in our country.”
The roadshow kicked off in Bulawayo on July 6, receiving enthusiastic participation and support.
Chideya noted that the auditions in Victoria Falls exceeded expectations, with many talented performance artists showcasing their dynamic movements and vibrant energy.
“People are looking for something interesting and hopeful. The creative economy can play a crucial role in showcasing the gifts of our people,” she added.
The Harare auditions are part of a broader initiative aimed at nurturing local talent and addressing critical issues within the industry.
Following the auditions, a comprehensive four-week programme will unfold, leading up to a gala event in September designed to raise funds and attract corporate support for the initiative.
Chideya emphasised the significance of this competition in changing the narrative surrounding Zimbabwean models.
“The Supermodel competition is about more than just aesthetics; it is about advocating for the rights and protection of young women in the industry,” she said.
“We recognise the unfortunate susceptibility of young and aspiring models to exploitation and human trafficking, and we are dedicated to ensuring their safety and well-being through a robust Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.”
After the auditions, semi-finals are scheduled for October 5, 2024, followed by a boot camp starting on February 1, 2025, and culminating in a grand finale on March 1, 2025.
