A Bulawayo woman wailed in court after her 18-year-old son was jailed 12 years for sodomising a 15-year-old boy.
She was led away from the courtroom by relatives as they tried to console her.
Tawanda Dube was convicted of drugging and sodomising his former tenant’s son.
Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Mr Crispen Mberewere suspended four years of the sentence on condition that Dube does not within the next five years commit a similar offence.
In a testimony, the teen’s brother told the court that he heard his younger brother screaming as Dube assaulted him.
Prosecuting, Mr Simbarashe Manyiwa told the court that on Tuesday night at around 9PM, Dube followed the teen to bed and gave him some brown liquid claiming it was honey.
“Complainant went to bed leaving accused drinking with his brother and uncle. Accused followed 30 minutes later and gave him some brown liquid to drink before they slept. Complainant woke up later screaming pleading with the accused to leave him alone. Accused apologised to the teen’s brother and mother. The matter was reported to the police leading to the accused’s arrest,” he said.
