ARMY side Moto Moto fired warning shots in the opening round of matches of the Zifa Matabeleland North Division 2A League by dismantling Hwange Reserves 5-1 at the Colliery Stadium at the weekend.

Freddy Mudado’s charges, who clinched the same league last season, but failed to take up their Division One slot this year due to financial constraints, grabbed their goals through braces by Ernest Gwitima and Needed Moyo, and a goal by Knowledge Kunyarimwe.

Kudzai Matanda scored Hwange Reserves’ consolation.

Not to be outdone, Trumus Warriors gave new boys Shumba Stars a baptism of fire with a 4-0 away win at Dampa School in Cross Dete. Brighton Phiri’s brace and goals apiece by Clyvine Sibanda and Henry Nyarungwe completed the rout.

Iwisa Sparrows hammered four without reply against league debutants Flying Elephants in Dete, thanks to the precision of Thabiso Ndlela (brace), Sleek Clive and Methembe Moyo.

Erstwhile champions and Hwange-based side Blackrock thrashed Corinthians 3-0 at Chinotimba Stadium with goals from Innocent Phiri, Ephanos Sibanda and Brighton Ndou.

Nengasha Stars FC sent Amagagasi Under-19 packing with a 3-0 hammering courtesy of a Moses Gama hat trick.

At Raylton ground in Dete, Hotspurs Leopards edged gritty Ingagula FC 1-0 with Madodana Lunga grabbing the solitary goal.

Lukhosi Pirates edged stubborn OT Academy 2-1 at home thanks to strikes by Reuben Mpala and Malvin Mpofu. Peter Mudziwapasi pulled one back for OT Academy.

The only draw of the opening round saw pre-season favourites Baobab Rovers firing blanks in a goalless draw against Classic Luyando at Chinotimba Stadium in Victoria Falls.
