THE final round of the RK Fuels Motocross Nationals, hosted by Bogwheelers Club at Donnybrook Raceway in Harare, went off with a bang on Sunday.

Great racing throughout the various classes treated spectators to some high-octane action and entertainment throughout the day.

It was more of the same from Daiyaan “D” Manuel having secured the MX2 title already.

Manuel was kept on his toes in both motos by Emmanuel Bako.

The two were never far apart throughout the day, the action was fast and furious but Manuel managed to secure a 1-1, with Bako going 2-2.

Bako was more than satisfied with his overall performance on Sunday, which saw him romping to victory in the last race of the day in the seniors’ category.

“It was tough out there, but I managed to win the last race which is good for me and my team,” Bako said after Sunday’s race.

Doug Mellor had also secured the MX1 title coming into the final race, however Regan Wasmuth came out swinging to put his stamp on the final round.

Wasmuth had a superb day going 1-1 showcasing his skills and speed.

In the 125cc Class, Riley Rocher had some stiff competition from Trail Carter from South Africa added to his fight with Tariq Shelton for the 2024 title.

Rocher held his nerves, pulling off a tight 1-1 moto score and securing the 125 Class title for 2024.

The 85cc Class was all action for both motos. Seb Wright, Kudzwai Chitsurura, and Chris Mufanechiya were neck and neck for the day but Wright would prove he was the deserving champion, holding off the competition and securing 1-1 moto scores.

This would be what he needed to hang onto his lead in the class and be named the 2024 85cc Champion.

Another great head-to-head battle in the 65cc Class saw nine-year-old Victor Nyamupfukudza do what he needed to secure the title in the first moto. Mufanechiya and Nyamupfukudza were trading wins and second places on the day with some close and exciting racing.

Nyamupfukudza is now preparing for the 2020 FIM Africa of Motocross of African Nations Championships which are going to be held in Marrakech, Morocco, from October 25 to 27.

If all goes well, financially, he is going to be joined in Marrakech by a fellow 65cc rider Mudiwa Sakupwanya, and his brother Judah.

Meanwhile, Judah Sakupwanya again went 1-1 on the day with some impressive holeshots and clean riding in both motos securing his maiden title in the 50cc Class.

With the conclusion of the RK Fuels National series, motocross now looks ahead to the Betterbrands Zimbabwe Summer Series scheduled for December 11-15 at Donnybrook Raceway in Harare.

Off the back of the success of last year’s event, the chairman of the Bogwheelers Club, Scott Fraser, said they anticipate this year’s to be even bigger and better!

The Betterbrands Zimbabwe Summer Series is the season-ending event, which attracts top international riders from overseas with some of them coming from the UK, the United States, Germany, Austria, and Australia.

The Summer Series is a three-day international event that comprises two Supercross (night racing) events and a full day of some motocross racing. Last year’s three-day race meeting attracted more than 22 international bikers from the UK, France, Germany, Australia, Austria and South Africa.

The exciting event attracted more than 5 000 motocross fans with some coming from neighbouring countries South Africa, Botswana, and Zambia.
