A MOTORCYCLIST is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly running over a colleague twice with a motorbike following an argument at a bar.

Ashley Phiri, was granted US$150 bail by the Harare Magistrates Court on Friday when he appeared before Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa.

According to the State, the incident occurred on May 24 at around 9pm at Big Shop Chibururu in Eastview Phase 3, where Phiri and the complainant, George Kanokanga, were drinking beer.

The court heard that a heated misunderstanding erupted between the two, leading to Phiri slapping Kanokanga.

Kanokanga tried to retaliate, but Phiri allegedly rushed to his motorbike, started it, and ran over Kanokanga, causing him to fall to the ground.

As Kanokanga attempted to stand up, Phiri reportedly made a U-turn and ran over him a second time.

Witnesses said Phiri made another U-turn, stopping his motorbike dangerously close to Kanokanga, with the exhaust pipe burning Kanokanga’s elbow and stomach.

The attack left Kanokanga with burns on his left elbow and stomach as well as bruises on his face.

Bystanders at the shopping centre intervened and escorted the injured Kanokanga to a nearby police station, where he filed a report.
