adminIn an interview, the MIAZ vice president Mr Reggies Sibanda said lately members in the fuel industry have been suffering from a double blow whereby EMA was penalising them while their profit margins were low.
“It is not the responsibility of the fuel dealers to keep the environment safe but the responsibility of oil companies who produce the fuel,” he said.
He said EMA and National Social Security Authority (NSSA) should primarily deal with oil companies instead of squeezing the fuel dealer who works with direct orders from the oil suppliers.
“We are not fighting the environmental body but we have to approach EMA so that they know how we operate as an industry,” Mr Sibanda said.
He said his association wanted to enhance its relationship with the environmental body following an invitation which was extended to them by EMA.
“EMA invited us to participate in an environmental keeping workshop and we want to take that chance to help EMA have a better picture of how our industry operates so that when they ticket businesses, they do it accordingly.
“As MIAZ we are readily available to assist EMA in coming up with vehicle emission standards as this directly affects the motor industry.”
Mr Sibanda said the environment was a collective responsibility of the fuel dealers and suppliers as well as the motorists.
“As an industry we will continually work tirelessly to protect the environment by making sure that the products we produce are environmentally friendly and of high standards,” he said.
