A motorist who broke a Harare City Council clamp by driving back and forth will face the full wrath of the law, the local authority has said.

In a statement, Harare City Council said it has taken note of the video in which the owner of a blue motor vehicle (registration number AGG7256) that had been clamped by their parking marshals in the Central Business District managed to break the clamp and drove off.

Council also said a man in civilian attire who is seen in the video throwing a piece of the broken clamp onto the car’s windscreen as it sped off is not their employee.

“Members of the public are encouraged to comply with the Harare (Clamping and Tow) bylaw 2005 which states that the release of clamped vehicles is upon payment of prescribed fines,” reads the statement.

“The breaking of a clamp affixed on a motor vehicle by an authorised officer is an offence. Consequently the Harare Traffic Enforcement Unit is keen to interview the owner of the motor in connection with this issue.”
