Motorists arrested for bribery

Three motorists were arrested in separate incidents on Saturday and Monday in Bubi, Matabeleland North, on allegations of bribing police officers at roadblocks.

The motorists offered bribes to be released after they were arrested for various traffic offences.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi urged the public to stop offering bribes to officers.

 “On Saturday, Police in Bubi arrested Elvis Mubaiwa (37) for bribery after he offered 200 rand to a police officer at a roadblock. Similarly, on Monday, police at Bubi roadblock arrested Sabastain Chikwavarara (49) for bribery after he offered 50 rand to a police officer indicating that he had five passengers in his Toyota Wish vehicle without a passport,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.

“Police arrested Energy Muringami for bribery after he offered 170 rand bribe money to police officers at a roadblock after being asked to produce a driver’s licence.”
