Motorists loses US$27 300 cash, car to robbers

Two motorists lost a vehicle, over US$27 300 cash and valuables to armed robbers who stage-managed road accidents in separate incidents in Harare.

The robbers were travelling in a Honda Fit which they used to hit the vehicles from behind before robbing the victims.

A manhunt has since been launched for the robbers who are still at large.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed.

“Police in Harare are investigating two separate robbery incidents in which the suspects, who were travelling in a Honda Fit vehicle, stage-managed road traffic accidents before stealing valuables and cash from victims,” he said.

In one of the incidents, a motorist travelling in a Toyota Mark X vehicle was hit from behind by a Honda Fit vehicle on April 9, 2024 at the intersection of Hurtsview Drive and Lantana way, Ridgeview.

Three robbers who were armed with a hammer then attacked the motorist before stealing the Toyota Mark X vehicle.

In another robbery case which occurred along Derby Road in Avondale, Harare on April 8, 2024 at around 9.30pm, a motorist lost US$27 300 cash after the vehicle he was driving, a Toyota Mark X, was hit from behind by a Honda Fit vehicle.

Investigations are still in progress
